Frequently Asked Questions

Smile Makeovers

What are porcelain veneers?

Veneers are designed to improve the esthetics of your teeth. A Veneer is a thin shell of customized porcelain that is permanently bonded to the outside of your tooth and sometimes they are as thin as a contact lens.

Are Porcelain Veneers the right option for me?

It depends. If your teeth are cracked, chipped, worn or If you would like to improve your smile by changing the size, shape or the color of your teeth, then porcelain veneers may be the right solution. If you are happy with the size and the shape of your teeth but simply want to improve the color, than perhaps whitening may be a better option.

How long do Veneers last?

Although every mouth and diet is different, life expectancy of veneers is anywhere between 10 to 20 years.

What are the steps in creating your veneers?

It all starts with a consultation. If you are a candidate for veneers, photographs and measurements are taken. The final outcome is then created using software which will then be used to communicate the final outcome with the ceramist. A mockup is created and temporarily transferred to your teeth to simulate the final outcome. Think of it as a rough draft.
If the final esthetics are approved by you, at a subsequent appointment, teeth are responsibly and minimally prepared, an impression is taken and temporary veneers are placed. For approximately 2 weeks you will wear temporary veneers while your permanent veneers are being created by our master ceramist. Temporary veneers are removed, and the permanent veneers are bonded onto the tooth structure at the final visit.

Do veneers discolor?

Yes. Veneers do age, however with proper home care porcelain stands up to daily use very well.

Do veneers hurt?

All of the dentistry that I perform is painless. On the day of the tooth preparation, the teeth and gums are anesthetized and at no point is pain felt during the procedure. Slight soreness is sometimes reported that evening. Typically it is managed with Ibuprofen, Advil etc.
